The problem i see with the Melevs reef design is that it will give the fuge too much flow. you CAN have a fuge with high flow, but from what i have read, it is better to have low flow.

It also depends on the kind of macros you plan to keep. Some like high flow, some like slow. I am trying to find your design on melev and am unable (I am probably just a dork.....well, I am one anyway....just a greater level of dork right now.).

i think thats just a bio ball like filter, he may put carbon or something in it,
they main thing is he has a valve to control the flow to the fuge then the rest just bipasses the fuge and goes to the next section of the sump.

i think it will work. but thats mainly because i believe the copepods will survive a pump trip. if you want to be safe, you always can just make it a tank above the main tank, with a overflow that drains to the main tank.

I am using a wide piece of PVC with large slots in the bottom so i can run carbon. There will be eggcrate to make a shelf for the carbon to sit on right above the slots. The water will go in the top, and drain through the slots. This way, the water has to flow through the carbon. i will probably also put some phosguard or nitrate sponge in this section. I will be building the sump tonight or tomorrow, and should have my overflow, pump, and skimmer by wednesday. I will post a build thread with pics .

you can also put a sponge in the fuge section. Pods will chill here and once a week or so put the sponge in your DR and shake/sqeeze the pods out.
