Return Pump Question

I'm trying to decide between a Marineland NJ3000 and Quiet One Pro 3000. Does anyone have any experience with either pump?

 

Marineland is a good product...I have no experience with either but I have used Marineland products with great results. jmo : )

 

I have had both a Quiet One 2200 and 4000 literally burn up on me, I mean sparks, fire and everything. I would never own another and certainly would not recommend them. I also found with a little testing that they run much hotter than comparable pumps, are not as quiet as they are advertised to be, are not as efficient as they claim power wise and have trouble restarting on a power outage.

I would look at much better pumps such as an Eheim 1260, Ocean Runner 2500 or a Water Blaster myself. I have experience with all three and they are well worth the extra investment.

 

I've been running a QO 4000 on one of our setups for several years with no problems, but they aren't a super quiet pump as AZ mentioned.

That being said, I've become a real fan of the Sicce Syncra Silent series...they really are about the most silent submersible pump I've used, and are pretty easy on the power draw (and we've used a LOT of pumps over the years).

As mentioned, the Eheims are really nice pumps too.

 

I have the NJ3000 on my 55 w/ 30 gal sump. It has been running for 5 months so far, and no issues at all. I find it to be very quiet, but I have nothing to compare it to. With the tank running, the overflow is easily twice as loud, if not more. I recommend it based on my experience so far.

 

my magdrive pump has been running 4 years without a cleaning.
