Return pump question

    Restricting the flow of the 3000 by almost 50% will be ok?

    Yup. You can restrict the flow as much as you want, as long as there's a small amount moving. I would say 25% is a safe number.

    And you will be surprised how much you really will have to turn it down. You have to remember your going to have almost 3' of head pressure just to get it back up to the tank. So your going to loose somewhere between 200 to 250 GPH right there.

    Then you have to consider the fittings, if you have lets say 1" pipe and 2- 90 degree elbows and 1 - valve you can add another foot or so to the head loss or about 50 to 75 gallons, so now your down to somewhere around 475 GPH with that pump.

    So like I said you might not have to turn it down much more that 1/4 or maybe less.
