I have a 46g DT & 20g sump with about 14g water in the sump. My question is which return pump would be better to use: a MJ 1200 or a Rio 1700. My overflow is rated for 600gph but is really only getting to about 400. I am currently running the Rio.

    Thanks James;)

I believe its a matter of personal opinion. As long as you are happy with the job it is doing why change it. Those are both decent pumps. I tend to oversize mine a little for my tank because I can throttle it back to where I like it and it gives me the ability to add equipment off the return line later down the road.

Thanks Bama your right the Rio would be able to power a reactor later on. I could use the MJ1200 in the DT for more flow but they look so ungainly. I'll have to hide it in back to take care of deadspots behind the rockwork I guess.;)
