getting ready to setup the sump to start curing live rock in the equipment room!!!!! ;D;D;D but now I need to pick up a pump that will return the water that comes from the tank. From the drilled over flow its a 1 1/2" pipe and the return is an inch. The equipment room sits underneath the tank in the basement and from the bottom of the 100gal sump to the bottom of the 150 gal tank, is about 20 ft! "have some bends and stuff to work around so I will be using flex pipe for a return. What pump would you use to return the water that will give enough flow???? I will be using a 40 gal refugium but that will be plumbed off the drain line of the tank or off a different pump.

again any suggestions would be great!

oh yeah I will be using two vorteh m40w pumps for wave making!

What application are you planning on? What I mean by this is, do you want a in-sump or an external pump? Luna

You also need to decide what corals your going to keep. You will want a big enough pump that you can run a manifold to tie in maybe a calcium reactor, PO4 reactor, carbon reactor, skimmer and so on. Me with the head you are going to have I would go with a Reeflo Baracuda or Hammerhead and keep the pumps external so that no heat is put in the water.

If you plan ahead and get one pump big enough then you won't have a bunch of PH's or small pump running additional equipment you add later.

I am going to have two pumps one for a manifold for the skimmer/reactors etc and then one that just returns the water up to the tank, I have a hard time relying on a single pump to run everything.

I run 2 Hammerheads in mine but one just runs a closed loop to a ocean motion valve and the other one runs a 6 1" valve manifold for sump return, reactors, and chiller.
