If my main display is 300litres and sump 10litres, is my return pump to powerful running 4ft upto the water surface at 1700 lph?

If it is im gonna set a valve on the hose to control the flow, and hopefully this will help with noise.

Just done a tank volume calculator and for a 24" square tank comes up at 225 liters 50 gallons, this does not take into acount the empty weir, then the sump which is around 15 litres, so its actually more like 250litres, its the clearseal cube...

For optimum performance of the sump, your flow should be around 10x the sump volume. With 1700lph in a 15l sump, you're at roughly 113x.

Not sure if you should trim the pump that much; you might need a smaller pump.

I don't know anything about that pump, but the RIO 1700 is rated at 642gph.

Thanks for reply, everything you need to know about the pump is in the link I supplied, just wanted some feedback on if it was suitable for my tank, a better choice over the rio 1700, given if my turnover should be at least 5 times my sump volume of 10 gallons, seems the rio is overkill
