Return pumps

    I am helping a buddy revamp his 30g tan (its actually a 38) and we've decided to get rid of the HOB junk and go with a sump. I had an extra 10g laying around that I gave him. we grabbed all the walls and filter socks to make a sump out of it. But what soze return pump should I be using? The sump will be approx 4.5-5 from the top of the tank. So i know about head measurements but don't want anything too powerful.

    What would be a good return pump?

    I usually try to go with around 3-4x the system volume

    Maxi would be good/cheap. I like mag drives myself but you might have to dial it back. If you put a valve on it it doesn't really matter what you use
