    No argument here. :)

You might want to invest in a TDS meter to confirm you're not buying tap water.

Never heard?.....theres one 2 blocks down the street. 20 cents/g. They even have this like 30ft. hose and they'll come out and fill your jugs in your truck for you. 8)

The water store by me has a long hose too. I was amazed the first time I saw a big RV in the parking lot filling its fresh water tanks with RO. I never thought of that. Its also nice for some of the reef guys who have plastic 55G drums so they can leave it in the bed of their pickup and fill up or the people who live in rural areas and haul all their water. yes we still have a few of those rural areas in Phoenix.

If you do decide to purchase wate rget a handheld TDS meter. I know the Lowes by me carries them next to their RO stuff and someone said even Wal Mart sells them but I have not seen one there.
Check the tap water TDS and the treated water TDS to make sure they are getting good rejection or removal efficiency or go somewhere else. By good I would say no less than 95-96% removal from the tap TDS at a minimum, I get 99.35% removal with my RO only with a tap wate rTDS over 800 before DI so it is possible.

Could you expand on that a bit? I've had mine for about 8-9 months and so far no problem. Just getting the to point I'm about to replace all the filters and probably the membrane... Resin's recharged every 3-4 months.

I don't like the lack of an integrated TDS meter, but whatever.

It came fully fitted with an ASOV, saddle valve, and drain tap for $145. LFS sale.

At the time when I first started the hobby, I didn't know anything about RO/DI. I shouldn't of said "disaster" because part of it was my fault for not knowing or learning about these machines.
Water Generals are not the best quality. You can get better performing machines for about the same price & save $$ in the long run. I've learned that "6 stage" machines are redundant in that you don't need all those carbon blocks & all those tiny horizontal jobs for fine water.
I had one machine that had this plastic taste that just would not go away. The LFS told me to talk to Water General. I had another that had an ASO valve go bad or wasn't working because the the DI water was backing into the RO tank, blah, blah. That was a few months after I bought it.
Anyway, The hardware can be used. You can change out those carbons & all and make a real nice system. I decided to buy a new machine with 2 TDS meters though.

I have a coralife RO/DI for $150 and my TDS meter has never read anything other than 0.00 , i do keep up on my filter changes though. Best investment ever!
    Don't trust the water stores!

Hmm, well the one I have is fine. I have good luck with cheap stuff that others never have success with though. Some people are just never happy or aren't smart enough to know when they are LOL.

I've been using the same type of machine for over a year... it's a Glacier Water vending machine at my local grocery store - same price you mentioned in the first post. TDS is close to zero, the back of the machine uses PVC/plastic tubing (not copper), and it's routinely maintained (so says the date on the lcd screen).

I fill up two 7gal jugs every couple of weeks... no water quality issues whatsoever, no wait for RO/DI to process and it only costs $4.20.

    Give it a shot!
