    Rhodactis Mushrooms

    Scientific Name: Rhodactis inchoata

    Origin: Indo Pacific and Caribbean

Lighting: Will adapt to most any type of lighting. Had mine under PC and now T5. If using MH, care must be taken to gradually acclimate them to the higher lighting.

Current: low to moderate, they will not open in higher flow areas

Feeding: Photosynthetic but can capture larger items and will fold up around it will it eats, have never personally seen mine do this nor have I tried.

Growth: Will grow and spread like any other mushroom. I have seen considerable growth over the past month, almost doubling in size.

Aggressiveness: semi-aggressive, will harm close neighbors, has small tentacle like appendages surrounding its perimeter.

Water Params: As with any coral, good water quality is always required. I had a spell of algae which will severely irritate the mushrooms.

Personal Observations: IMO this are some of the best looking mushrooms. The colors are not uniform and vary wildly. They really glow under actinic as well. Fragging can be done in a manner similar to all mushrooms. They will either split on their own, drop a smaller bud, or you can cut the top off while leaving the stem. They are also very hardy corals and great for beginners. Once had one get flipped over and go face first into the sand while I was away from the tank. It was like this for two days before I got back. Flipped it over and was back to perfect health and size in no time.

If any one else has any pics of their own Rhodactis mushrooms please feel free to post them.
