Ok, so the pic shows a ricordea that I purchased in late Nov. or early Dec. 2011 from a LFS - it was in a smallish coral display tank.

It was previously centered and perched directly on the flat rock, now moving to our left and nearly now over the edge.

I had it in my 65g DT reef/fish until for about 2-3 weeks but needed to relocate all the coral (softies and LPS) to a 20g long so that I could medicate the fish. All the coral have been doing very well in what was intended as a temporary situation. In fact, 20g is doing so well I've decided I'll make it a permanent nano reef.

Lighting is T5 39w 10K + actinic + "moonlight" leds (these on 24/7). Fixture is 6" longer than tank (intended for 36" not 30" tank) until I can find one someone to swap with me.

Filtration & Flow: Penguin 150 hanging end of tank to maximize flow. Also a Marineland mini-jet as a circulation aid at approx 100gph.

Anyway, some awhile now (many weeks), the ric has been stretching itself to the left (in the direction of water flow).

    • Not sure if the ric has too much light? It's 7-8" from light.
    • Bored and going for a walk? (sorry)
    • Too much flow - which just seems unlikely unless they really like still water?
    Thanks!

Mine has been doing something similar, but was sprouting new mouths along the way. I always assumed it was just the direction it felt was more ideal to grow. I'll follow along on this thread to see what else anyone has to say :)

Could be allelopathy from the LPS you have next to it?

That thought has crossed my mind.

Worth noting, however, the hammerhead was only very recently repositioned. It was in same place but lower and nearer bottom of tank - lower than ricordea...I perched it higher 2-days ago to give it more room and fuller light.

Ric has been on the move for quite sometime. I ignored it until now as I actually thought it had settled in. But, it really never stopped and it's simply a very s-l-o-w walkabout.

My ric is always on the move, and it leaves little bits of itself behind to grow new rics. Its becomming more of a pain than a good thing. I started with 1 and now there are over 20 of different sizes all on 1 rock.

What of the frogspawn to the left is it the same situation as the hammer? I would think that the only reson for moving is if it is not happy where it is at, light, flow allelopathy?

Sounds like an interesting $frag$ opportunity albeit I do understand the downside.

I'm not seeing any pieces left on the trail...unless they are too small for the naked eye? I'm assuming I'd see the same color growth in its wake?
