Ricordea splitting by it's foot?

Hi guys,

One of my ricordea has been acting weird. It's seems to be moving on the rock stretching it's foot. I know mushrooms can split by leaving a chunk of it's foot behind but usually ricordeas will split from the middle and not the foot. Anyone heard of this before? There are 5 other rics on the rock and they're not doing anything in the like. Crappy phone pic for reference.

Lateral fission, asexual reproduction. It's normal, just not as common as budding.

 

This looks like pedal laceration. I've never heard of or seen a ricordea reproduce this way, discosomas yes but rics? You are probably right as it looks perfectly fine otherwise, I'll just keep an eye on it.

Check closely for nudibranchs.No coral nibblers in your stock?

 

No fish in the tank and I've been keeping a close eye on all the other corals, didn't see any bad critters. The 7 other rics are doing great but this one in particular has since shrivelled up and will probably die from what I can tell. No clue as to why though. He isn't close to any other corals that could be stinging it so I just don't know...

that is weird, it does look healthy in the picture. Sometimes we just don't know why things do what they do. The colors on the ric are really nice.

 

So true...

I even moved the rock they are on to a lower flow area in the tank thinking that could be the reason, the others are in fact doing even better but I think that one is a goner.
