So who here has had a Ricordea split naturally.(not by cutting with a razor blade or banding it) I got a ricordea about 6 weeks ago. When I got it, it had 3 mouths and it seems to me it is now splitting! ;D;D Anyone have an idea on the time frame I'm looking at before it finishes splitting. It's been about a week now. I'll post a pic when I can find my camera. Thanks to all my fellow reefers!

probably a week or two... feed it and I bet it will split faster... I've had one with two mouths for about a month... it is splitting slowly... the previous generation split pretty quickly after I got it though, I don't know why that is.

Splitting quickly is a sign of stress. Slow spitting is more natural. It could take a month or better. Congrats on your possible new ric.

Well, that would explain why my first generation Ric split so fast and the second one is taking much longer...

Of course, you could just snip, snip, snip...

Has anyone ever heard of putting a ricordia or mushroom into a blender and dumping the contents into an aquarium and having tons of them pop up everywhere? I know that sounds insane, but I wonder if that is a rumor or if it really works...

would be an interesting experiment to try with a small unused aquarium...

Not very cool but could work. I had some rics melt away to where they were completely gone. Well I found a little one growing and it keeps on growing that is the same color as one of the melters. So i would say it could work.

Thanks for the replys guys/gals! It is deffinantly taking it's time to split. I can see a little progress each day. All my params are excellent and all other habitants are doing great. I'm sure it's splitting for a good reason, not that it's stressed or unhappy.

Should I continue to feed it while it is in the process of splitting? It's not opening up like it was before the split started so I'm not sure if I should hold off on the feeding, or still feed it while it is splitting?
