Hello everyone. For anyone who's tried to get to know me; I have 5 children under the age of 11. So parenting has taken much of my time here lately which is why I haven't been on here in the last 3 weeks. Anyway, I've added some things to my tank since my die off. I'm doing things very slowly now. I still haven't caught my sargeant major damsel, but I have added a umbrella leather and a blue striped mushroom and a kenya tree and a lawn mower blenny for my algae problem. It looks like green hair 3 to 4 inches long growing off some of my rock. So here's the concerns I have: My white, yes white, ricordia looks bad, almost like it's splitting. It's insides were coming out the center for the past 3 or 4 days and now it's real small and looks split. Is it trying to divide so that there will be two or is that me wishful thinking? Also my blue stripe mushroom was doing great for 2 weeks and all of a sudden one morning about 2 weeks ago it was completely gone. I still haven't seen it. And 3rd my little colony of zoos are always small. Could this be from the hair algae messing with the opening up like I see in other peoples tanks. By the way corals are doing GREAT in my tank, so I'm going to start adding more fish, but very slowly. If anyone could answer these questions that would be very awesome. Sometimes I feel lonely when on this forum. Someone, anyone, please respond!!!!!!!

Hey mate! I can't answer your ricordia question for you. How about some stats on your equipment? Lighting, tank size, parameters etc.? This might answer some of your other questions.

I agree with Mission, we need some stats, but the way your describing it, it doesnt sound good. Try to take the coral out of the water and smell it. If it smells bad, its dead.

Dude, I know people say params, but I know, having a 75G that the minute I have all my lights going for days on end, I end up with some red or green hair showing. I just believe from MY experience in MY tank, that if the tank is not deep enough, it has a hard time handling heat unless there is a chiller or fans. I have a good amount of flow and spot on params, my nitrates are around .5 when it's time for a H2O change with corals growing like crazy. Anyhow, my point is, 10 WPG, what kind of cooling system do you have? This is my observation in my tank and some might not agree with me, so do what you want with this, just an avenue to explore...

I've managed to keep my tank a pretty constant but high temperature. It stays at about 83 degrees. My lights are 2 250 metal halides and 4 95 watt actinics with 6 moonlights. My daylights are on for 8 hours and actinics are on for 10. My nitrates are about 40 and my calcium is at 410. My nitrites are very low and so is my amonia. My salinity is 23. I only use bottled water until I get back from vacation. I'm then investing in one of those portable ro systems. I can't really move the single shroom or ricordia, whatever it is, it's on one of my base rocks that support everything.

My tank gets to 83 from time to time, but if I let it stay that way for days on end, I start to see the hair algae and the red cyno. You shouldn't have any nitrites or ammonia. IMO that is alot of heat for a tank that is not that deep. To combat your algae issues, I would cut down on the lighting. Take a small flathead screwdriver w/ a sm hammer and chizzel the shroom off if it's dead. Dead only fuels the fire.
