rid my tank of velvet disease

    ive lost 3 clowns to which i think was velvet disease.they has white dust on them they were breathing heavy and darted around the tank.

    now i have just 2 cleaner shrimp and 2 hermits left.

    ive been told to leave the tank fishless for around 8-10 weeeks so the parasite can die off.
    im also going to keep my tank lights off through out

    is this all i can do?? and will it work??
