The power is a bit over-kill, I will admit that much. But if your wanting to keep a vast amount of corals - I would highly suggest it.

I am thinking a good 4 to 5 inches from the top of the tank. Also, you will have A LOT more water evaporation when you switch to MH.

That setup I am pointing at, is about 13 watts per gallon for your cube. Anything over 8 watts is OVER KILL. But as you move it about 5 inches from the surface and you'll be fine.

Also, if you can find a cheap MH clip on, that would possibly be the better route. I'm always thinking future use tho.. and that lighting setup is what I'm buying in a few weeks for my 20g breeder that I'm gonna setup for a frag tank for the wife. ;)

Im definately gonna purchase this. Thats a great deal. You saved me a lot of money. My only concern is the monthly cost. Could you expalin what the flourescents and led's are for. I dont know much but what i read is that flour. should be actinic light, correct? And also can these be turned on seperately? I read somewhere that actinics should run for 10 hours and the halides for 8 is that correct?

Actinics are lights that target a specific spectrum ITO output 420 to 460nm. It drives the photosynthetic activity of the zooxanthellate within the corals themselves. T5 actinics coupled with a nice little halide will do you nicely. The LEDs in this case are moonlights. Completely useless unless you are planning on trying to get your corals to breed. They are for you. I run mine sometimes. Most of the time, I just put my tank to bed and shut the lighting down completely.

You have point there. I haven't done that in a while. I think I'll sneak up on my tank tonight with a flashlight and see if the pods are multiplying like they should.
