this may seem like a stupid question but how do you rinse sand? 160lbs of sand if i use tap water it will contaminate the sand wont it? if i use RO/DI water it will not have force to rinse it. In my fresh water tanks i just put it in a bucket and ran it under the water in the tub and let it flow. But that wont work with fine sand and it will get contaminated. So how do you do it?

some people dont agree with rinsing the sand. personally , if this was going into a tank thats just gonna start cycling, i wouldnt worry about the cloudiness. it will settle and clear up.

also again, if its a tank thats starting to cycle, i think you can use tap the rinse it with. there wont be any life in there to worry about. i could be totally wrong here. not the 1st time. lol

Many people use tap , I used ro/di when I rinsed mine , I just put it in buckets and stirred it with my hands and poured the milky water off the top.

thanks makes sense. it is a new tank, new everything not even put together yet. I still have to build the stand. one of the sand suppliers said their sand needed to be rinsed well before use so i guess i wont get that sand sounds like it could be a disaster. Most of the sand suppliers say no rinse or quick rinse. I guess i will give the bucket and ro a try and let the cloud settle while the tank cycles. again thanks.
