I have a Rio 3100 pump that connects to my skimmer! All has been fine up until a hour or so ago. The pump started making funny noises like it isn't spinning like it should. I have ph in my FW and I can take those apart to fix something like that but I can't figure a way to take this apart! Does anyone one if it on its way out or can it be fixed! It isn't even pumping hard enough to get into my skimmer! IF you don't have a skimmer you can get in trouble. Should I try to fix this or get a new!? I would have put this in ASAP but figured many would think it should go there! I couldn't find any threads related to something like this either! I tried!

I would try cleaning the impeller, I know on my pump if it gets dirty enough or if something gets stuck it will self clean itself by spinning backwards or try too.

Push the two sides in on the intake cover and it should pull off, they are stubborn, sometimes very stubborn.

I own a 1700+ myself and it isnt even worth to try to fix. The motor is usually encased in a gel anyways to damper noise. If the impeller isnt the problem then i would recommend buying a new one, especially if it wasn't a pump that was supported by your skimmer. Either way, best of luck, hope its a simple fix!

Those pumps are easy to take apart. Pry off the "vented" part of the pump and unscrew the round housing. Pull out the impeller and inspect it for cracks or "egging". You may need to clean it with an old tooth brush. Also clean where the impeller came out of. Luna

Thank you! I will try to clean it and report back! Fortunately it isn't something that is majorly life threating...or should I say tank threatening. If I can't fix it I can order a new!

Once you clean it, there will be no more problems. My 2100 did the same thing. I had no idea what to do. So I bought a new one. Then, as I was transporting the 'broken' one downstairs, I had a John moment and dropped it. It came apart. So I cleaned it, put it in water and presto.....working unit. Felt pretty stupid.
