last night i went to put my birds away for the night, when i noticed my female parakeet, "babybird" was just looking at me.. she and "bungie" have bonded three years ago and they want nothing to do with me, so i found it strange that she just stepped onto my finger. They both have wings fully grown and 99 out of a hundred times they just fly away from me. So i took her into my bedroom, amazed at how calm she was. she just sat on my chest looking at me.. i even picked her up and gave her little kisses. Im not used to having her so close by me and all alone like that, it is rare indeed. I was noticing how beautiful she was, such soft shades of yellow swimming around her body like sheets on a warm bed. I put her away back into the cage and she almost seemed to want to come back with me (sleeping with birds is a no-no) so i left her in there. She passed away last night and i never expected that i would be so sad at the loss of a parakeet. Her mate has been chirping all day looking for her and its making it even more sad. here is a picture of them looking at my tank when i got it setup 8 months ago.. Goodnight babybird.

Loss of a friend, human, fish or fowl always hurts.

    Sorry for your loss. +karma.

Birds are amazing critters, if my dorm allowed me to keep them I would love to rescue a cockatiel. My parents had a pair since before I was born, they died a few years back at 18 and 20.
