Hey y'all. I've been busy with school and work and life and blah blah blah blah, so I haven't had much time for internetzin (other than facebook, but that doesn't count...does it?)

Anywho, not much has changed with our three tanks (a Nano Wave 9 with a mantis and a damsel, a Biocube 14 that had a nice mantis until about 3 days ago, and of course our 46 bowfront reef), however, as you may have noticed from my parenthetical spiel, we are short a mantis. Our Gonodactylus Smithii (Purple Spot Mantis) named Bo passed away about 3 days ago. He was 3.5 inches long (fully grown for his kind) when we got him from Stomatopod.com, and he was 3.5 inches long a year and a half later until he passed. So there was no telling how old he was, we just know that he was old, and we were pleased to have him for as long as we did. He became more secluded towards the end, and eventually just passed on. It wasn't a bad molt or bad tank params or anything, he just up and died. RIP Bo, you were a good one. In fact, when I googled Gonodactylus Smithii, our youtube video of him popped up in the search. Thank you internet, for putting salt in my wounds.

Here's a link to Bo's build thread and life thread.
http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-of...moms-14-biocube-mantis-tank-what-74570-7.html hopefully the link takes you to page seven, which has the first pictures of him on it. If it doesn't, just click page seven, it's not hard. You can also find pictures and videos on pages 8, 9, 12, 13, etc. ok there's alot of pages you can go to. So just watch this video :D

Well, with Bo gone, we're nuking the rock that was in his tank, and letting the algae and grossness in the tank die, so it can be reborn into a frag tank. Lambo (my other mantis) and Orca (his damsel friend) will be moved over the biocube 14 and live in there as the keepers of the frag tank. Meanwhile the nanowave 9 will be completely torn down and just kept in a closet somewhere, you never know when we might need it again.

but that new future build thread I mentioned? Well I may have talked my mom (Triplemom on 3reef) into getting a 29 biocube and getting a peacock mantis for it :) Heck, she should always have a mantis friend, right? This seems like the perfect time to transition to a new mantis only tank and to a peacock mantis. It's a perfect fit! And we're looking to get our stand from Dr. Fosters and Smith because they have the best deal, and we're going to trade in some tank frags to our LFS so we can get a huge discount on the biocube itself. Last time we traded in a frag of a leather coral, and two branches of our hammer coral, and got $60 in store credit. Well the LFS owner loves our hammer coral (he sold our branches within a week, he can sell them very quickly) and he's been in love with our bright orange Yuma shrooms for a while, so we're going to try and trade in 2 more branches of hammer coral, two big yumas, another leather frag, and a baseball sized chunk of bright green montipora. that should get us well over 100 bucks in store credit if I do say so myself. yay!

So that's the plan. Hello everyone, it's nice to pop in again and keep you guys updated. I'll keep you guys posted on the Peacock Mantis endeavor!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Sorry for the loss. I enjoyed your video, what a great pet.

Mom, been there. If I leave anything unsaid regarding arrangements there is un written code that meant I was in for the whole deal.

Oh seano, you is a funny guy...

That piece of coral is probably double or triple that size now

It's growing in two places now, and the baseball sized frag we're going after is just a chunk from the back :D

If you so wish, I'll grab shots of the different corals we're fragging to finance this mission

    Pictures are posted!

Somehow when it comes to tanks, arm twisting isn't involved! Except when it comes to tearing out walls and taking out my downstairs bathroom.....I haven't caved to that request!

By "pictures are posted" she means they are posted here:
    http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-off-your-fish-tanks/our-progress-46-bowfront-55581-45.html

And by pictures, she means these:

The part we're fragging is that round upper "shelf" in the back below the powerhead, and yes it is the size of a baseball. And with our actinic lights on, you can see why are LFS owner wants it

And if you look below the clam in the second picture, you can see some of the yumas I was talking about :) The hammer corals in the picture too, but this shot was taken when we woke the tank up, so it wasn't awake yet.
