My BTA was moving itself into a crevice yesterday, so I decided to get it off the rock.. Well, I had read that it'll come off if you point a powerhead at it, except now I know that it wasn't supposed to be so close. I held it about an inch or two away for about a minute and now it looks like it's ripped under the tentacles! :( Its tentacles are deflated and it isn't getting bigger with light. I'm worried it may rot. Should I take it out? Do I need to show a picture? Help!!

A picture would be really helpful I think. I'm thinking the flow shouldn't have torn it but I guess if it was really, really strong - maybe.

I can't get a picture of the rip, because it seems to have moved itself a little. Here's a picture of it, though. Taken a few minutes ago [IMG]

anemones are resilient creatures, as long as they are healthy and kept under the same good conditions that they thrive under this little guy should have no problem healing in no time at all.

I think that the anemone should recover and as chelseagrin said, they are quite resilient. But, if you start to see dying/necrotic tissue, you can use airline tubing to siphon off the dead/necrotic tissue and giving the coral a bath with an Iodine solution like TM Pro Coral Cure or similar product. It is likely the best way to treat the problem as the iodine will act as an antiseptic and hopefully prevent the spread of the tissue necrosis.

Good luck, its a beautiful anemone!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    It could go either way.

I would test for ammonia to make sure there is no decaying tissue.

With all that said, many experienced hobbyist will clone BTA by removing them from the tank and cutting them into quarters or half. In a healthy environment the BTA's recover without issue. Hopefully you will end up with two anemones even if it was unintended.

You can't force it to stay in an area, if it wants to move... let it. They like little hiding spots to put their foot in. Just give it time and let it do what it wants.
