So went to my lfs and noticed a new shipment in and I started to look in my wallet to see if I had enough when bam it hit me that they doubled there prices in some fish. 15 dollar fish were now going for 30. Was wondering if anyone else has seen this rise. My lfs is also moving spaces to bigger space and this might also be the reason but was wonder because of everything else going on if any one else has seen this rise. Thanks again in advance

Mine have definitely jumped. Because the American dollar is so weak I am now exchanging my money (us dollars) for Japanese yen at a rate 20% lower than It was a year ago. Maybe this is part of the reason for higher prices in the states also, higher costs for importing because of the weak dollar.

You live in the Midwest and it's January. The animals are coming from either Los Angeles or Miami more than likely. The wholesalers are having to add more heat packs to each box and your LFS is also likely having to pay extra for NFO shipping.

Wholesale price lists swing wildly. Want something from Australia? Buy it now. St. Louis might be -25 with the windchill factor today  but it's summer in Australia right now. The divers will go down. When it's summer for you, it's winter for them. The number of divers who will go down in the winter drops substantially, so supply drops but demand remains the same......ergo, wholesale prices goes up for Australian corals when it's summer for us. Then you have to deal with exchange rates. That's a lot of fun because they are less predictable.

Often for things from Australia. That's assuming OPEC remains at their current production rate so there's no fuel surcharges and the dollar isn't devalued. This is a LOT harder than most people think. Some LFS's are not good, some are. But their job is harder than you think it is and some do it well and some don't.

you have to deal with them having to compensate for a higher loss rate on livestock in shipping during the winter also, I've dealt with a few different wholesalers and trust me they dont like giving LFS' credit back on DOA livestock so they end up eating alot of that cost, and that rises dramatically when it is cold outside
