Turn the powerhead off and let it settle. Find a friend and bum a cup of real live sand out of their tank and seed your sand for a jump start. There are lots of local reefers in the Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, Chandler area, I can give you ways to contact some if you PM me.

Its going to settle with or with out the power head off or on.. If one is so inpatient to now allow this stuff to settle out then its going to be a expensive hobby down the road.

no problem, and you would be wize to get AZDesertRat to hook you up with the local reefers club, they are a great source of invaluable information for the hobby in general as well as for local resources like frag trades etc.

Tangster is right...you actually wash down the drain alot of elememts that your tank will need like calcium, magnesium, strontium, carbonate and many others. No matter how much rincing you do your going to have cloudy water so just dump it in without rincing and add your water, setup your filters and powerheads and 24hrs later should be clear. gravity still applies in seawater so all those particles you have floating around making the water cloudy will eventually sink. It's much better in the long run to not rinse and wait for that cloudy water to settle out.

I don't follow this question I simply said that no need to cut any pumps off it will settle out on its on and if one is to inpatient at this stage and in such a rush as to not allow a tank to clear up for a few days then its going to become a very expensive hobby , After you have been in it long enough and set up a few hundred large systems where several of 4 tons of sand is used What i found is that much aragonite can never be rinsed . And it will settle with even several 20,000 GPH pumps running on a loop and a larger one for the filtration system's mechanical rooms they often being several hundred feet away from the tank.

And while I'm replying I was going to ask you on your statement earlier about rinsing sand you said that you would never set up a little tank and not rinse the sand , I ask you why do you say this ? And what do you base this information on ? I would advise all to look for any foreign unwanted object and remove if found but I depend on common sense and all would do that anyways . And with setting up smaller tanks have you ever set up one and not rinsed the sand ? Oh never mind you already answered that question so I ask what do you base your rinsing opinion one ? what you have read or where told ?

For what its worth all that dust is simply what comes out of a Calcium/Carbonate reactor in the long run and if left in the tank many would find there wold be no need to buy purple up and other coralline algae booster products . Try it on your next little set up and see what you have been missing .. Your tanks will love you for it and please don't get me wrong not trying to be argumentative and start a war of words I'm just trying to help some people save some money and times and end up with a far better product and healthier marine aquarium .

I guess at the end of the day I'm just offering free advice to all who would listen and to those who do not then all I could say is its your tank and money and remember it was free advice and to many thats all its worth .;)
