Hi everyone. Just started my new tank about 2 days ago with curing live rock. I have 2 problems so far that I hope you can help me with.

The first is that my tank temperature seems to be rising. I set my heater at 77 F, and the tank is now at 80F. The heater is not hot to the touch, and does not seem to be on, and the ambient temperature of the room is 77 F. Why is the temperature rising, and what can I do about it?

Second, my octopus xtreme 160 skimmer (again, that I turned on about 2 days ago) seems to be skimming well, but is very very noisy. Does anyone have experience with this, and can anyone suggest some way to quiet things down?

    Thanks

lights and pumps can contribute to heat rise, what kind of lights are you running?

all my tanks run hotter than the air temp. Is your skimmer pump vibrating off the glass?

I'm not currently running any lights, so I guess it must either be heat from the pumps (quiet one 6000 for return, sicce for skimmer, koralia 4 x2, aquaclear 70 x 2). The skimmer pump is elevated off the glass, but I guess it's possible that the vibrations from the pump are transferred to the plastic of the skimmer that is sitting directly on the glass?

Put the skimmer on a neoprene mouse pad if it's vibrations.

Ok, so I put the skimmer on a foam pad, and the noise continues to be a problem. I guess it is from the skimmer itself. Any ways to adjust that (for those familiar with the xtreme 160 skimmer or similar)?

Just a thought--You really dont need to be skimming just yet--not for about 6 weeks, unless you are just testing it out!
