Please excuse if this is the wrong place to post this, the equipment groupings frequently confuse me because there's no specified place for lots of it, or "catch-all" group". The problem is with my RKL.

I was downstairs at the tank, fiddling with the plumbing, and the alarms start going off for the DT Overflow float switch. It closes so that if the drain line gets clogged, I have no problems with flooding. This was expected, since I was messing with the frag tank's flow, and they're combined into a single manifold to drain into the sump. Then, the Frag tank overflow, working the same way, also starts going off. Then, it keeps going on, every couple seconds.

I pulled the float switch for the DT, and it still went off, despite being held in the closed position. Then, the FT still went off, so I pulled it and held it closed, and it still went off. I caught one of the alarms, and for a split second it shows a hyphen ( - <that) before it showed the name of the floats. I went into the modules, and mostly seemed fine, until one time, they all showed up as hyphens. That happened to be a time that I got into the screen as the alarm was going off.

I guess the alarms were being triggered by the lack of a SL1 module showing up (and thus a lack of float sensors), but what kind of problem could this be?? [IMG]

I have no idea what the issue is Blackraven

but I do know its worthy of a bump for the attention of potential RKL owners on site

I dont know anything about them - but if your holding the float switch up, does that mean it tells the RKL that more water than has been allowed is flowing into sump, thus alarm continues to go off?

Well, the beeping on the unit (from the alarm) continues until it's shut off manually, but the principal is that if the drain line from the DT gets clogged, a float switch will tell the unit that the line is clogged (because the DT is too full), and it will turn off the return pump. Then, when the water level lowers, the return pump will turn back on, but the alarm will still beep.

It's happened before (thanks to some nerites that wandered out of the main display area), so I set the unit up this way to prevent that from happening again.

The issue I'm having seems to be that the unit is losing contact with the modules, and is then freaking out and triggering the alarms.

Im not even sure if this link is any use?

if it is a forum for users of the product you have?
and we cant get a comprehensive answer from anyone on this site
(we may do, just maybe none of them are on site at present?)

I've posted stuff about the RKL before, but never got a response, so I don't know if anyone on here really uses one.

I also posted on DA's support forum, but there's typically not a response there nearly as quickly as here.

Seen your post on the DA site..I've have never seen hyphens come up on the display before..are all your contacs dry and no breaks of some sort..did you try using the float in another way just to see if its the sl1 or an actual programing issue...sorry I cant be of much help.

I'm gonna check, but I doubt it. The issue doesn't seem to be with the floats themselves, as they trigger regardless as to whether they're plugged in or not. The actual modules are kinda isolated from the tank too, so I can't imagine the bus connection being wet or anything.

It's like the SL1 drops connection to the RKL for a second, then gets it back. Except it happens to all the modules, not just the SL1. The SL1 just happens to be the one where the alarms are set up, so they get triggered when it drops, but the PC4s both disappear and become hyphens, as does the NET.

OH ok I got ya..any recent firmware up grades?..can you try unplugging the units and then connect them one at a time to see if any my be the cause..I have also read that a bad bus cable can do strange things sometimes to the system and they seem to just go bad..also maybe try doing a reset of the head unit..sorry its all I can think of at the moment.

I've had terrible luck with my RKL, so I can feel for ya. I second the checking for firmware updates, sometimes that helps. Also have you tried resetting all of the components back to default in MyReef? I would try that if you haven't. You could do it from the Display but from what I have read, through MyReef you can select files to back up you settings. I would however, probably just set it all up as new. Sometimes the data corrupts in your settings due to an alarm going off or other various raw data and boom, nothing can be fixed until it is reset. At least that is the 1st step DA had me do with my problems that they couldn't explain. Lol. Good luck!
