Very strange and nerve racking. I'm pretty sure you're right on the shipping part. See. Another example of patience in this hobby. If I'd waited just a week more before ordering the wennerae I could have a unique species.:angry:

Don't you hate that!! Grrrr....that's happened to me so many times with fish and coral.

Well I hope you get some info soon!! But I think it's a good sign your card wasn't charged right away. If he just wanted to steal your money, seems like he wouldn't have waited several days. But then again...no! it will be fine!

Yes I do! lol I'm hoping he took my request at an ultra cool mottled green colored beast and that is what took so long. (yes 4 days for a person who suffers from instant gratification disorder is a long time ;D)

That's a cool looking mantis! Are you sure you want a spearer though? I looked at a few different spearers but decided against it. They're the type that give the rep of 'thumb splitter' for a reason lol. If you can find one it would be very awesome!

Whippy's post reminded me of something kind of funny and it was a learning experience for me...
My peppermint shrimp was sitting on top of the spray bar in my DT the other night and I didn't think it was such a good spot for it to be hangin out. So I stuck my finger in there to scare him away. But the little freaker didn't run, It jumped on my finger, wrapped it's legs around and BIT me! It frickin hurt too! Not excrusiating pain but enough to make me say "HEY!"

    Yumyum

Just ordered a bunch of hermits and snails from reefcleaners. As a special treat I also ordered 3 of the micro Porcelain crabs. I hope they aren't real cute..it'll make it to hard to watch them being consumed. LOL

The more I think about it, the more I realize events happen for a reason. The glaborous would've eaten up my entire budget. The wennerae left enough to get it some live food. But the biggest thing about the extra money..my TDS meter popped a 1 while making water and I'm out of resin. So fortunately I also have enough left over to get a bag of that as well.

As far as the G. Glabrous. Contact Billy at sales@stomatopod.com. It's not listed on the site because it was a requested species.

so as you know, reefmonkey, I am also looking ingot getting a mantis. I'm sorry for all the questions. ;) I know/have heard of some mantis shrimp raking the glass. So here are my questions..

-Will all do this if angry enough?
-Which kinds won't or aren't strong enough to do so (even in a 10g - 3/16" glass)?
-I am looking for a colorful mantis while still small in size.
-Can I have some small tank mates and still have a mantis that won't eat them?
-I know many people have mantis shrimp in just 10g. Will it be alright in my 10g rectangle?
-I don't want it to end up breaking the glass and spewing 10g of SW and rocks about the room (the tank is in my bedroom)...
-What exactly do they eat? Will they only eat live food, or can I feed froze & dried foods?
-More questions when I think of them, I assure you.

You're asking the same ?'s over and over again and my answers will always be the same. I don't want to speak for him but I'm sure Stepho's will be too. This will be my first mantis but I read about the different types for a couple month before even seriously considering buying one. Color is obviously important to you so why don't you do right by the mantis and buy a 30 gallon set up for it and get a peacock? I'm pretty sure you will anyway which is unfortunate because it will be good for a while until it hits 5" or so. Then it'll need more room and either get so stressed it'll get sick and die or jump. And another thing you really need to keep in mind. It's a living creature that came from the wild. Any one you buy might just hide in a hole for a very long time. It's not going to act exactly what you may be picturing in your mind nor will you be able to make it act the way you expect it to. I'm sorry if this all sounds harsh but I feel as though you are trying to get my (and other's) to approve or "o.k." a mantis that is too big for 10 gallons.

Thanks. I realize the peacock and larger mantis will not be happy in such a small tank. I was looking for something at about 2 - 3.5"

Should I get the reg. amount of recommended LR(1-2 lb per gal)? Or should I go a little +/-? Is this more personal preference again? I figure I'll need plenty of crevices/caves?

    Shallow sand bed or deep?

EDIT: How do I transport the mantis from LFS container to my tank w/o getting hurt? Protection?..
