I am using ro water with kents osmo prep in my ato system and was wondering if i have to worry about the elements in my tank building up from it? And also if i can/should be adding purple up to my top off water? I also plan on getting some inverts so would i need to dose iodine? and if so can that be mixed with the ato system. I have a 90 gall dt with a 20 gall fuge, 18 watt turbo twist, cascade 1500 canister, 2 heaters, and a marineland skimmer. 90lbs live rock (not enough) 80 lbs live sand. I only do about a 5 gall water change weekly.

Hi, I am not sure of what "elements" you are speaking. The prep does just, preps the water to change it to reverse osmosis. That is the claim, I have never seen that product so I looked it up. You can add purple up to you top off water but I would get an Iodine test since Purple up contains Iodine (trace) so after time Iodine may build up (unlikely) but may. The test will be needed if the Purple up doesn't provide enough Iodine and you wish to supplement later. Iodine is a touchy subject with aquarists so you will get a lot of negatives but I am attempting to answer your question. I personally dose once a week with Iodine. You may want more rock. The larger the bio filtration the better. Say, hows about a pic?

You have to admire the people that will sell you the product to strip the water then sell you a product to put the stuff back in :) there is really not much need to add that to your water and if you feel it is necessary then simple get you a bottle of the CaribSea araganight stir in a tsp per 5 gals and it will do much more for far less and it never hurt to have it to settle to the bottom it will still dissolve as needed into the water like a little calcium reactor for all the carbonates and Ca and Strontium and iodine everything that is found in 100% NSW.. I run all my make up water through the reactor that hold it i a mud slurry at the bottom . It works much the pickling lime kalk reactor does ..
