i bought a ro/di unit a year ago "Aquamaxx" and it had missing parts to it like (ASO and pressure gauges).
it comes with 3 chambers and a membrane. i had replace the carbon, sediment and DI filters once. i believe its time to replace the filters again.

i was thinking about ordering a new membrane also and filters from spectura.
and buying auto shut off kit and pressure gauge.

Is this a bad idea or should i buy a new unit?

im trying to stay away from buying a new one when i can just use the shell from the aquamaxx ro/di

The pressure gauge I'm not sure how you would install. It might require drilling the RO housing.

As for buying new prefilters and an ASO from Spectrapure, that's definitely a good idea.

well upgrading is not a bad idea.....BUT 1st whats your tds coming out after DI..hooking up a pressure gauge is easy, just place it after your carbon block, just before it goes into the RO membrane..getting the stuff from spectrapure is the way to go..I just recently did an overhaul of a 3 yr old purewater club RO/DI unit with spectra`s stuff and have been very happy..any questions on RO/Di stuff azdesertrat(not sure of spelling) should be able to help you out with no prob..

my tds meter is telling me 0 after DI. a pressure gauge with a T fitting from BRS or specture should work right?how many should i use two or one?

You only need one pressure gauge, on the incoming water.

You will need a TDS meter to tell if the membrane needs replacing. Test the tap water TDS and the RO only TDS before DI and use those numbers to calculate the rejection rate.
A new Spectrapure 90 GPD membrane is only about $30 and a matched flow restrictor another $5 so I would say if your rejection rate is 96% or less it would probably be worth the cost as it will save that and more in DI resin replacements.

The pressure gauge goes between the carbon block and the RO membrane so it acts as an indicator for plugged or fouled prefilters and carbons.

You should replace the prefilter and carbon block every 6 months and disinfect the system at that time. The DI gets replaced when the TDS is anything other than 0.

do you just subtract the tap water from RO water (TAP - RO= ?)

tap TDS- RO TDS divided by tap TDS x 100 = rejection rate
    Example:
    200 tap TDS - 10 RO only TDS = 190, 190/200= .95, .95x100= 95% rejection or removal rate.
