    Good morning,

I just bought a 4 stage RO/DI unit and i am looking to set up 2 60 gallon barrels in my garage. One will be for straight RO water and the other will be for Saltwater. Ideally in my new house i am going to have a 265 gallon in-wall setup where the room behind the tank is going to house all my filtration and setup. but this is around 5 years away. For now i would have to setup up the RO/DI and the barrels in my garage.

Heres my concerns. Is the garage a good place to have this setup? I recently read thread about a guy who had algae in his RO/DI because of the sun hitting it in his Garage. When my garage door is shut there is no light.

What about temperature. In Texas we have hot 104 to 115 degree summers and 20 to 50 degree winters for months at a time. Would this affect a setup in my garage?

I am also interested in seeing how other people set up their RO/DI systems. Maybe I don't need to do a garage setup like this.

    Please let me know,

Sounds like a good idea to me.I have mine in my garage but only make 5 gallons at a time.I then take it in my house dump in a large trash can and start mixing.I also have another trash can just to catch waste water-to water all the plants in my yard.If it is in your garage make sure to keep it covered so nothing can get in it to cause the algae to grow.

Then put a cover over the bins so no light gets in.

I'm in Phoenix and have had my RO/DI and storage in my garage for years with no problems.
My ATO reservoir is a 23 gallon Rubbermaid recycling can like pictured here:

Since that photo I changed out the drain valve to a 3/4" ball valve for faster filling of buckets or 5G jugs. Note the float switches and their placement. The way they are set it has to drop 11 gallons before the RO/DI comes back on so I reduce or eliminate the effects of TDS creep associated with float valves constanting starting and stopping the RO/DI with only millimeters of level change.

The can sits on a 24" high stand in the corner and is covered. I recently tested the water quality in the can and its still less than 1 TDS, actually 0.2 using a COM-100 TDS meter and its been in use for about 18 months and never drained.

I recently installed a small window AC in my garage mostly because of the Federal appliance rebate program. I bought an 8000 BTU AC at Lowes for $199, used a 10% off coupon I received in the mail and then was approved for a $150 rebate so it cost me about $29 plus tax. I couldn't go wrong with that deal! You might check your state and whet they have rebates on right now, in AZ it was washers, large AC units and stoves until July 1 and now its window AC, refrigerators, freezers and solar water heaters. I know Texas has a similar program.
