I'm looking to double my output on my current RO/DI system. I currently have 5 Stage/DI 75GPD system running @ 50PSI, it takes 97min to make 5 gallons of water. Normally this would be okay BUT I have my faucet on the other side of my apartment resulting in pipe running across the apartment upsetting the GF and myself tripping.

I really like the first option because I save water "helping the environment" but can I put the extra membrane anywhere or does it need to go directly on top of the existing membrane?

    First Option:
BRS 150 GPD Water Saver Upgrade Kit

    Second Option:
    150 GPD Reverse Osmosis Membrane

    Current System:
    BRS 5 Stage PLUS RO/DI System - 75GPD

    Note:
I am also purchasing 1⁄4" Aquatec 8800 Booster Pump to support 150GPD.

Good question and I dont know. I have the same exact system as you and feel that I can make water quicker than that, but i have the luxury of just turning it on and coming back hours later to a 40 gallon brute full.

I would wonder if the increase in pressure from the booster on the 75 GPD would help at all?

If you add a larger membrane or piggy back one on top of your existing, you may have a loss of water pressure. Be prepared to buy a water booster pump.

I just talked to BRS and the membranes can go anywhere, they said to not go past 80PSI. The 8800 Booster pump should work well.

I am sure AZ will chime in, but I myself have the BRS 150GPD water saving system. Obviously what it is doing is sending the waste to the second membrane, so it will have a significantly higher TDS than the tap water. This will shorten the life of the second membrane. However, I am 8+ months into running mine with thousands of gallons of water through it (between RO drinking water and DI water for the tanks) and it still performs as new. Incoming TDS is usually around 100, post membranes is 4. So 96% rejection rate for me. I did install Spectrapure particle filter and carbon block recently though. I haven't had them long enough to say if they how they are performing compared to the standard BRS yet though.

Thanks for then help, I do wonder how long the membrane will last, if I get 2-3 years I'll be happy. They are so cheap now it's almost justifiable replacing every year.

I am 100% with you and exactly why I am fine with how it operates. I have 80 PSI from the tap, in case you were curious.

The membranes need to be close together as you are linking the waste from the first to the intake of the second. I do not agree with the BRS "water saver " crud though, membranes MUST be flushed so reducing the waste ratio is counterproductive and will lead to a failed membrane. I had a dual membrane system running at 68 psi and was getting 220 measured GPD out of it and that was at the normal 4:1 waste ratio on water that was 800 TDS at the time.

Today I run a single 90 GPD Spectrapure membrane on a 8800 booster pump at 95-100 psi and get 125-130 GPD at 99.4% rejection rate.

Thanks for the help, I already placed my order for the dual kit. I do have the ability to flush my system. Should I do this every time I make water?

BRS recommends to flush before and after every use. I need a flush kit myself.
