I just purchased a SpectraPure RO/DI system and I have one question before I start pumping out the good water. With regards to first operating the unit it says, "Checking the concentrate to purified water ratio". Is this step important or can I just hook it up and just go with the flow? Any help would be great

I also have a SpectraPure RO/DI unit and I skipped that part. I just hooked it up. Luna

I think they are asking users to do that to get the waste water ratio. If you don't care about your water bill, I would skip that step too.

For those who have the same unit, I tested the unit just like they say to in the book, came out to a perfect 5:1, my water pressure was 60..so to anyone else, you can just skip this step, but it was convenient because its an easy way to discard the first couple of gallons.

Before using it, you should first hook up and flush out the sediment filter, carbon block, RO membrane, and DI canister individually. I'd run 2-3 gallons through each of the chambers to flush it out. Otherwise your first batch of water will have a higher TDS. If you don't flush each chamber out individually, the impurities will just get passed onto the next filter, and shorten it's useful life.

I didn't get that unit but I do remember a "flushing" step in my process. I did it by the book.
