Whats the easiest and cheapest way to make a RO system auto stop when the water level reaches its point?

I use that exact thing. I have it plugged into a timer I bought at Walgreens so it, at most, will let the RO/DI unit pump water into the reservoir 1 hour a day.

This keeps it from a. accidentally overflowing b. keeping it from having endless supply of FW to the DT and c. keeps the RO/DI unit from having constant start/stop cycles. If I lose power, NO FW gets made, so I'm protected that way.

    Good luck.

Mine is plugged into the Reef Keeper Elite with 5 min/hr as my cycle time...for the same reasons you have outlined...

5 min/hr isn't going to keep the RO/DI from having constant start stop cycles.

I have mine set at 1 hr/24 hrs. It'll run for (usually) about 30 minutes or so to fill back. I think one long run per day is better for the membrane than 24 5 minute (or shorter) runs a day...

    Just a thought.

My system make up comes from a 75 gallon tank mounted in the overhead, this feeds the float valve... the RO/DI unit is fed from a 1/4" control valve (off the cold water supply), also connected to the RKE, and is energized for 4 hours in the evening M-F, Off Saturday, and 12 hours on Sunday...thus re-filling the overhead tank....

This performs as you have indicated and by keeping the RO/DI system depressurized for the greater part of the day...minimizes TDS Creep to prolong the life of the DI resin......or that's the plan anyways.......

The cheapest is an autoshutoffvalve (ASOV) on the RO and a float valve in the storage vessel or tank. A more reliable setup uses float switches and a solenoid valve and better yet float switches or an optical or air sensor with a back up high level float switch such as the Spectrapure UPLC-II or Tunze Osmolator.
