With all of the trace impurities in city water, visable "floaties", and the such....do you want to drink that? We didn't...

It's simple, and we've done it in our house with our RODI system.
I simply put in a T between the RO membrane chamber and the DI canister.
The water that passes through the sediment filter, charcoal filter, RO and DI unit is for the tank only.
The drinking water has only passed through the sediment filter, charcoal filter, and RO membrane.
I was told that if you drink de-onized water, it can have a negative effect on your teeth enamel.

To plumb this split correctly you need a check valve or two as well. If you'll email us we can send you a set of instructions for our Reef/Residential system - which is plumbed as you describe.

You'll not want to deliver DI water through a metal faucet or plumbing.

Not sure if you have your answer or not yet,

When I spoke to BRS on the same question, they basically said add this T
1/4" Quick Connect Tee Bulk Reef Supply

So I would leave the unit intact, T off the output and send one to the DI unit , then the DI output could go to a NEW container or to the tank for ATO.

I have not yet tackled this, but that is the plan. I will also leave a valve in the basement for filling a 40 gallon container so I can have water change water ready.

Thats what I like about the Typhoone at AWI, it comes with the two outputs already.
I should be gettting around to theis soon, I am tired of adding a gallon a day the old fashion way.

    Good luck.

I have a Q for ya Russ. Theres been a debate about being able to drink R/O and RODI in the past. Some ppl say its ok to drink it for as long as you want. Others say you shouldnt drink too much of it b/c its what I call "dead water". Meanings that it lacks minerals that we need as humans. I was told that you can drink it but not too much b/c of the "dead water" issue. Whats your take on this? Luna

Drinking RO water is fine. Many of the expensive bottled water brands say "filtered water" on the label - in many cases that is code for RO water.

DI water is not something you'd want to drink because it doesn't taste good, so there is really no point to debating the health effects of drinking DI water. Remember that DI water is very agressive - it will corrode through copper pipe for instance. I would not want, as a matter of routine, to drink DI water and have the first thing that it hits be the enamel on my front teeth.

So the debate over health effects of drinking DI water seems to be an academic exercise to me - no one does it anyway. I generally try not to get involved in the threads on the topic. RO water is another issue entirely - remember that the RO systems we use in this hobby evolved from residential RO systems meant to produce drinking water.

Sometimes what you'll hear people say is "I drink DI water all the time and it tastes great." In the past when I've followed up on this, these people are using mis-configured RODI systems they buy on ebay that have DI water routed through GAC. Guess what - after you route it through GAC its not "DI water" any more (but you've wasted the capacity of the resin to purify your glass of water).

We just installed an RODI system & it drains into a 50 gal food-grade tank. My husband put a faucet (the brass kind you find on the outside of a house) at the bottom.

Does this mean that any water that passes through it will be contaminated?
