I would say just buy a TDS meter. They arent terribly expensive and if your unit has totally stopped working the water quality going into the unit could be pretty bad. Are you on well or city water? What is the water pressure going into your unit? You are using cold water to feed the unit correct?

Well water..hmm..if its clogging a ro di unit that fast you absolutely need to TDS and possibly professional test if its a high TDS reading for your own safety.

Well water is probably your problem. Low water pressure not feeding the unit correctly and the TDS of well water is generally very high. Ive been having big problems with my water quality because of TDS issues. Do some research man! Ask AZdesertrat and he will help sort out your problems.

If the water continues to run tha ttells me you do not have the necessary AutoShutoff Valve (ASOV) or if you do it is either plumbed incorrectly or defective.

If you do not have the ASOV they are only around $10-$15 and will solve your problem as they shut both the treated and waste flows off when the float or solenoid valve is shut off.

If you do have one, take a photo of your plumbing arrangement and lets see if we can troubleshoot it.

If you do not have a TDS meter then shame on you, you have absolutely no ide if the system is working or not and could be doing more harm than good. A good handheld TDS meter is $20-$25 at places like www.buckeyefieldsupply.com or www.spectrapure.com .

If you do not have a pressure gauge, how do you know your filters are plugging? The pressure gauge is the only way to tell since they can be dirty to look at but still functioning fine. An inline pressure gauge is the same $15 or so at the two places listed above. Make sure you get on along with the handheld TDS meter, those two tools are a must with any RO or RO/DI system and should always be used.
