I am looking for input on an ro/di filtration system. The Kent marine 4 stage hi-s ro/di goes for about $300. WHICH IS THE ONE WE USE AT WORK BUT I WANT TO PLUMB ONE DIRECTLY INTO MY TOP OFF SYSTEM. I looked on ebay and came across theeseAQUA REEF RO DI REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER FILTRATION SYSTEM - eBay (item 120423878655 end time May-28-09 09:13:12 PDT) ANDReefMaster Reverse Osmosis RO DI Aquarium Water Filter - eBay (item 270392585615 end time May-27-09 16:57:12 PDT) NOT THAT I WANT TO CHEAP OUT BUT IF I'M PAYING MORE FOR KENT'S NAME THEN THATS A WASTE. IS IT SAFE TO SAY IF THE MEDIA IS THE SAME WHAT IS THE POINT OF PAYING 300 WHEN I CAN GET IT FOR HALF PRICE? THANKS FOR ANY INPUT. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS LOCK I NEED A NEW KEYBOARD

Not all filters are the same, you need to look at the size of the sediment filters, the rejection rate of the RO membrane, the filter size of the carbon block etc etc. $300 is a lot for an RODI unit though unless you're getting a really huge output, 200 gpd+ one. Even the most expensive unit with a reasonable output from my preferred vendor is only $200 and that's with pretty much all the bells and whistles.

The economy 4-stage unit here is all most people need although I think a TDS meter is also necessary so you know when to change your DI and RO filters.

Also, be very careful plumbing one into and auto-topoff system, make sure you have double or triple redundancy safety systems because if something goes wrong with a float valve or a solenoid or something then you have a serious flood on your hands.
