    Hey Reefers,

Was wondering if anyone out there, uses there rainwater tanks for there top offs and do you still run it through you rodi unit or is it pure enough. Thought i would raise the question as we are on water restrictions here.

I have two rain water tanks that we use for watering our gardens...I wouldn't do it personally because of all the shingle dust that gets washed dwn into tank...I couldn't imagine that being great for the fish tank, but who knows.

I wouldn't trust rainwater straight up, it probably picks up all kinds of junk on its way down, not to mention you need a clean method of collecting it like Jacwil said. If you want to run it through an RO/DI filter of course it would be fine but you might want to test the TDS first in case it's extremely high, you would also need some sort of pump to send it through the RO/DI unit at 50 or so psi.

yea dont use rainwater... it would be a lot easier but due to the surface tension of water it can pick up almost any molecule! Theres wayyy to many bad chemicals in the atmosphere/ whatever the rain comes in contact with :/
