Hi all, had a question regarding RO/DI. Was looking at getting the Typhoon III and noticed a DI bypass feature. Is it better to use water thats gone through both RO and DI, or just RO (I was just curious since I figure using both filtration methods would leave no essential trace elements). And speaking of trace elements, is there a standard "mix" of chemical that should be added to RO/DI water before putting in the tank? (ie buffer, purple up). I'm not looking to have alot of corals, just some xenia (don't have yet) and my snails and hermits. Thanks for any info!

I was using ro/di for fowlr and noticed a great reduction of green in a few months, so I'd say use the whole thing. Also it would be good to get that one since someday you might just want more corals! spend a little now or spend double later....

I run a typhoon 3 and love it. The DI bypass is just a feature to let you decide on what type of water you want. If you want to drink the water then I'd use the bypass but if you are using the water in your tank use the DI chamber as well to get those TDS readings to zero.

Hope that helps. Oh BTW this unit also has a fast flush vlave to clean the input side of the RO membrane. This will greatly extend it's life.

I agree with all of the above answers.

With what items you are going to have in your tank I would not add any trace elements at all. Just do partial water changes weekly and that will keep your water in balance. Only if you create a heavy load of corals additives are needed.
