How do you know when it is time to change your filters on these things especially if you can't see the filter part through the outer casing?

Using a TDS meter. TDS= Total Dissolved Solids. Once your reading gets to the 10-12 range it's time. These meters are very cheap compared to the cost of letting your filters go bad. ;D

Once you use the TDS a bit you will get an idea of how often. For me it's once a year. The ro/di membrane lasts 2-3 years itself I believe.

Agreed. I have the inline one from AWI and it works like a charm.

Check this link out also, Premium Aquatics is a great company to order from, I've never had any problems. They are also the cheapest I could find.

One of the best ways is to install a dual TDS meter, like this one
[IMG] and it shows the in ppm and the out ppm. If you get a 5-6 stage RO/DI unit, its best to get two dual in-line TDS meters. One monitors the membrane and the other monitors the DI. For the most part, membranes will last up to 2 yrs and the carbon, sediment and DI filters will last 6 months. Of course this time frame will differ depending on your water quality and the usage. Hope this info has helped you. Luna
