Hello I was wondering if you could drink the waste water from your ro/di units?

I think it would be fine to drink. Anything that doesn't go through DI is OK. Granted, it's rejected by the membrane, but it's passed the prefilters and carbon block so it's cleaner than what comes out of the tap, and not deionized. That's just my assumptions though.

The waste stream or brine as it is more properly called is about 25% higher in TDS than the tap water was to begin with. This is due to the waste from that one gallon of good RO water being blended with the 3-4 gallons of flush or waste water. If the tap water was safe to begin with the waste should also be with a properly maintained RO system.
I would not drink it myself since the whole idea is to purify the water. Why would you want to drink it when it has many other uses such as landscape watering, laundry, filling a pool etc.

RO or RO/DI are both fine for drinking, granted the DI will have a very blah, bland taste since it is devoid of the minerals that make water taste good but I have drank RO for 19 years now in my home. I would much rather drink pure water than the concentrated waste

We use it to water the plants and they love it, even bushes, palms and vegtables

But i would not drink it as AZ said the TDS will be higher, I think it is more than 25%..more like 35-50%

That is what I use it for, well the plants at least.

I need to start using it for the laundry.

I would not drink RODI water as it is supposedly bad for you. RO water, on the other hand is some tasty stuff. My Fiance likes it much better than any bottled water.

It is probably safe to drink, but it will be higher in TDS like AZ said. Still depending on where you are there is probably people in other parts of the world drinking tap water with higher TDS.

Is water that expensive? I would just use it for watering plants and such.

Hi I'm a biochemist, I work in a microbiology lab, and we utilize (ddH2O/DIUF) double deionized H2O, ultra filtered for all solutions etc...

    Don't drink the kool-aid.

It's an high ion concentration solution, wouldn't hurt perse but if you have kidney issues or on a special diet etc, you have to take that into account. It's basically fertilizer (high inorganic composition)

Use it to water your plants. Feed it to a close system refugium.

    But don't drink the kool-aid.
