Interesting photo-guy.... I know several others use Brute trash cans here as well, maybe someone else has had this problem.

Replaced the micron pre-filter as well as the carbon block on my ro/di unit. It's not the unit, so I'm bleaching my Brute trash can to kill off whatever evil is lurking in there.

Bleaching my 5 gallon containers as well which also seems to have developed an odor in the process of transferring water from the brute to the containers. It smells much fresher now that I bleached it - keeping the bleach / water solution circulating with my utility pump, then will rinse and let dry for a couple days, then rinse again. Should solve the problem, I would hope.

Its common for DI water to have an odor. This is from the Spectrapure website:
QUESTION ON THE FISHY ODOR OF ANION RESINS
Type 1 Strong based Anion resins release very low levels of amines (trimethylamine). A very low threshold of 5 PPB or greater will cause a fishy odor to be noticeable. The odor is most noticeable when the resins are new and when they are at or near the point of exhaustion.
NOTE: Trimethylamine is also released by decomposing fish which also results in the same type of odor.

Notice the smell threshold is 5 parts per BILLION not million so it is a very powerful smell.
