Hey guys, today by mistake I ran by RO/DI water using hot water (turned on the hot water knob instead of the cold water one) for about an hour. I shut it off immediately, and then ran it with cold water and pulled out about 5 gallons. The water read 0 TDS with my TDS meter (which is calibrated). The manufacturer says that I should replace the filters and the membrane since it's only rated upto 113 F. But I am wondering if I really destroyed it or just shortened it's life by a lot but can still use it for a while (everything is fairly new. Less than a month old). Any ideas on how else I can test the water to make sure the unit is still working alright would greatly help.

    Thanks,
    Manoj

Regardless, I wouldn't worry about it, you can't go back and undo what happened. Just be careful about your TDS levels.

You may have shortened its life by a little but I wouldn't worry about it too much, just keep an eye on your TDS and replace when necessary.

Cool! Thanks. I usually measure the TDS of the water coming out everytime anyways. When it goes above 0 I will replace everything.

You may not need to replace everything, your RO membrane should outlast everything else by quite a bit. Measure the TDS coming straight out of the membrane, before any DI every month or so and when that starts going up a lot then it's time to replace the RO membrane. When your TDS after your DI goes up it's just time to replace the DI if your RO is still producing low TDS water. Replace your sediment and carbon filters more regularly (I'm changing them about every 6 or so months, maybe a little longer), it will greatly improve the lifespan of your RO membrane which is the most expensive part, and they are relatively cheap, especially the sediment filter.
