Definitely sound advice - the time and gas factor alone is worth money these days!

I am in a similar place as you - even though i only have a 30 gallon (at the moment) I run back and forth enough to justify the purchase of an apartment-friendly unit.
I am finding that I really want the convenience of "water on demand" without having to make it to the LFS before they close etc.

We have a couple of awesome site sponsors here who have sold their units to other forum members here who can certainly attest to the quality and performance. I have an RO/DI unit on my list of must-haves.

Are you saying that the wife does not want the RO/DI unit at the house? Just want to be sure I understood what you said.

I thought distilled water was bad because to distill water they use copper lines? I am no expert by any means, just something I had read elsewhere on 3reef.

Copper has not been used in stills in years. Todays distillation units are constructed from things like glass or epoxy lined stainless steel and titanium.

What SpectraPure model do you have? I'm looking for one, now that I bought my tank. Wish I had remembered to buy one while I was there at the LFS. Can you recommend a supplier?

    Thanks,
    Moose

does your wife not understand the overall savings from owning your own RO/DI unit?

at any rate, whatever water i ever got from a big-box store i tested. TDS meter is helpful but I usually gave it a full test for chlorine content, phosphates, etc. lots of times big-box dont change their filters as regularly as they should and you get extra unwanted phosphates and such.

SpectraPure MaxiCap 90 I think. 4 stage, graet unit.

HIGHLY recommend SpectraPure. You'll many others on 3reef feel the same way.

The Spectrapure MaxCap is a 5 stage RO/DI with dual DI units which uses an individually hand tested and guaranteed 98+% rejection rate 90 GPD membrane. Its $249 including two dual inline TDS meters, an inline pressure gauge, MaxCap and SilicaBuster DI resins, a 0.5 micron absolute rated prefilter and a 0.5 micron 20,000 gallon Chlorine Guzzler carbon block, capillary tube type flow restrictor and a hose bib adapter.

The Spectrapure ProPlus is a 4 stage RO/DI using a batch tested 90 GPD RO/DI membrane again at 98+% rejection, a 1 micron prefilter and 9,000 gallon 1 micron carbon block, SilicaBuster DI resin, a dual inline TDS meter, pressure gauge and the hose bib adapter all for $149.

Both are excellent choices, if you have high TDS tap water spring for the MaxCap, thats where it shines.

Wow, thanks for the details. Exactly what I needed!
I dont have the ability to test for TDS at the tap yet. With your units above, the TDS comes with them.

For those of you following along, and want to learn what TDS is? Check out this great video:

The electrolysis part will absolutely blow you away!

Thanks for the information. Someone else on here had told me not to use distilled for the copper piping reason. This is why I have such a hard time trusting people these days!!!!
