I would reconsider in Vegas. The BRS is nice for a normal RO/DI system but there really is no comparison even with the $149 unit. BRS does not test their membranes, nor do they custom blend every ounce of their DI resin for our unique needs. With the MaxCap you get an individually hand tested membrane guaranteed to be better than 98% rejection, mine is at 99.35% without DI, and dual DI with the MaxCap and SilicaBuster DI resins which will last at least 3.5x longer guaranteed. Add up the cost of a couple DI cartridges and you are soon money ahead. Talk to other longtime local reefers in your area and get the scoop on the differences.

Of course its entirely up to you, I am just trying to save you money and get you better water quality at the same time. When my DI life went from 150 gallons per cartridge to 900 then to 1500 I was convinced!

so is my DRINKING water at 40ppm bad? Should I replace everything already? Just did all filters and element about 6 months ago. Used for just drinking water and about the average amount per day.

Do you have a pressure tank? How about a final taste and odor GAC carbon inline filter?

If you have one or both, try disconnecting the line from the RO to the tank and test straight from the RO with no filter or tank. It should be much lower.

If your tap water TDS is 650 and your RO TDS is 40 you only have 93.8% rejection if that is straight from the membrane and not a storage tank or GAC filter which adds TDS back in.

If you use a pressure tank, make it a point to completely empty it at least once a week to 10 days to purge all the high "TDS Creep" water out and let it refill with lower TDS water in a long continous run. The constant on and off with a drinking water pressure tank causes TDS creep every time it starts and this is stored in the tank and builds up with time. Thats why storing RO or RO/DI water in a small pressure tank for reef use is not advised.
