Shouldn't be a huge problem. Does he have a TDS meter?

Yes get a tds meter. They are really cheap.
I beleive under 100 is good. That also helps you to know when you need to change the filters.
I use just RO and the tds comes in at 55. My neighbor uses a rodi and the tds comes in at 3. Makes me jelous bc. we split frags and his always grow quicker than mine. (I just tell him his tds meter is broken though) ;-)

They also have addon DI units you can purchase. It just won't look as pretty.

I think the DI portion removes unwanted negative and positive ions in the water (i.e. phosphates, nitrates, etc.). Very important IMO.
