i have a 50 gal per day system so it means it makes 50 gal in 24 hrs.. or so.... so i'd say it takes me about 4 hours to make 5 gal worth if that helps

What is the GPD of the unit? Was it bought used? Is there anything clogging any part of the water intake tube?

Could be the pre-filters and carbon block..when I see a drop in pressure in mine it usually means its time for them to be changed..

Sounds like a block. Have you opened the first stage to take a look at it? Is your TDS in usually 160?

As mentioned, likely your sediment and or carbon filters are spent. I suggest replacing both either way. Second, 40 PSI is actually lower than you should be sending through the unit. You may need to look into a booster pump. At pressures that low, the system is very inefficient (it will take a long time to produce water, and your membranes will be used up very quickly and not allowed to work they way they are intended).

the one i have is a 75g 5 stage it takes about 3 to 4 hr to make water. but now i am looking at 10 to 15 and maybe get 4 gal:eek:. so i know something is not right.

GPD is 75. i got it used/new the person didnt have it long. tube are not pinched or anything, its a clean shot to the RO unit.

that's what i was thinking too. but all 4 canister are still pretty much clear/white. i was doing some research before i made the post and a lot of what i read pointed to the RO membrane. i figure i would asks before i go replace part that need not be replaced.

    i will check tonight a post a pic/update

i have not opened it yet, I will tonight and have a look. Normally its higher about 199 - 205.

what should be a good PSI?
i will clean out stage 1 and post some pic later and see where it gets me and if the psi goes up. worst comes to worst i will get a booster pump.

Around 80 PSI. Based on what you said, it seems your membrane might be shot already. Your prefilters would be visually brown if they needed to be replaced.
