Have been reading for awhile and still haven't gotten a good answer yet on this question ??

I have high silicates in my tap water ( Well Water not City Water ) .....meaning over .25 with a seachams test kit ( off their charts ) ...where the LFS I buy my water from is DI only water with .06 silicates ...I have been using this water for W/C and I still have the diatom problems due to my ATO is thru a micron filter and DI Canister only.

I have looked around and see that Captive Purity has a HIGH S membrane specifically for Silicates. I know NOW that I will need to upgrade my system to a full RO/DI unit. Here's my question ......

Will a regular RO/DI unit ....looking at a 5 stage Unit ...will it remove 98% of my silicates ?? is that what the TDS meter is for ?? OR do I go with the HIGH S membrane specifically for the Silicates ?? .......The HIGH S membrane states it will fit all Capative Purity / Kent / Spectrapure systems ?? Or is it a waste of money ??

This is the one I am considering............. http://http://www.airwaterice.com/product/1EXTREMETYPHOONIII/EXTREME_TYPHOON_III_150_GPD_RODI_with_Gauge_TDS_Alarm_Dual_TDS_Meter.html

RO/DI unit will remove the silicate and any other impurities, producing very pure water. I would just go with an RO unit. TDS meter will measure for any impurities in the water not just silicates.

Yeah, RODI will remove 100% of everything. A DI canister that is not all used up should remove all silicates as well AFAIK if you're still testing TDS in your DI output after getting a new DI cartridge are you maybe running the water through too fast or something?

Regardless, RO/DI is the way to go. Just using DI resin is a very expensive way to go, most standard DI cartridges will only last for maybe 50 gallons of ~100TDS input water I believe.

Thanks for the replies. I think I am going with the new extreme Typhoon III 150GPD unit seems it has all the necessary equipment needed for everything reefing.

    Thanks again
