RO vs. Tap

Since my Tap water, (Filtered Well Water - PH 7.6) PH has gone up a few points I started reading around.

It seemes that RO/DI is poular and wated to get some feedback.
I have a 3 Gallon RO unit that attaches to my sink for drinking water. The PH from there is 6.8 which would likley end up too low on the PH side even after adding the salt. Maybe 8.2. Now sure whats better, 8.2 or 8.6+

Problem is, with a 3 gallon reserve, it's not enough for even a small water change. I know, get a bigger reserve. OK, the next problem is that the water trickles out and it takes about 20 minutes to drain the 3 gallons.

Of the units described in this forum, can anyone tell me if they act differently than mine ?

Sounds like the diaphram in the reservoir is not charged. I have a 10.2 gal tank and it takes it less then 4 to 5 minutes to empty.
You can get those tanks from Air Water & Ice pretty cheap and they are a sponsor for 3reef. That is where I got mine from and the customer support is great.

Your going to have problems later on if you use tap water, mark my words....

 

OK, I found the 10g tank, most likely will upgrade. I could not find anything on the diaphragm though. I suspect this will open the flow a bit ?

BTW, I do have a large filter system in the house from Well water. Do you think this will still lead to issues ? I can certainly continue down the path of RO water for the tanks, but I definitely need an upgrade.

 

There is a baffle or diaphram whichever you want to call it inside the tank. There should be an air fitting hole on the top of the tank. That is what needs to be charged.

Even well water from the Florida karst is loaded with Nitrates.
If you want a nice reef tank and you want it so you're not fighting algae issues all the time I would go with a RO/DI unit. If all you want is a fish only tank you might be able to get away with it...
