I use one of these (mine is actually black).
    Holds about 7 gallons.
    Got it at Wal-Mart.

For the ATO reservoir, I have a 5.5g tank. It was the best shape for the most volume.

As for storing RODI, I have 5 buckets, each with a piece of base rock inside.

I'm giving it base rock, so it'll pull known substances (calcium and carbonates) from the rock instead of complete unknowns from the air.

yeah, I agree it makes sense...

Water does really want to mix w/something...

Wouldn't a good lid serve the same purpose?

Not unless it's vacuum sealed straight out of the RODI. Otherwise, RODI is going to pull in anything it comes in contact with in the air (check the pH of your RODI if you don't believe me; it won't be a perfect 7). An hour and a half to fill the bucket + any air left in the bucket = contamination.

Putting the rock in, and putting the end of the RODI right up on the rock, should help it pull less crud from the air.

The RO/DI in this 23 gallon Rubbermaid recycling can has been in there for well over two years now. The can has never been completely emptied and it has never been cleaned out. The lid is loose fitting and it is in my garagewhich is not the most clean space in the house.
The TDS still registers 0 to this day using a HM Digital COM-100 handheld TDS meter.
