hello everyone, been a long time since ive been on here as i moved home 3 weeks ago and only just got broadband online!!! anyway enough of my life and onto my little question.....i had to copper treat my quarantine tank due to ick/whitespot. it has some live rock in there that has been absorbing copper.........(which is not a good thing i know).......will i be able to use the rock again or is it just easier/safer to get rid of it??theres not many pieces in there but we know how expensive it is.....

im setting up my new tank so was thinking of what to do with it!!!!

ive heard mixed answers on this so think i may just follow the majority!!!!

    thanks everyone

I wouldn't risk it. Might not have absorbed enough to leach out toxic amount later but you never know. If it's not that much is worth risking your new build? I would think you could buy base rock and seed it with a couple good pieces of live.

    I wouldnt risk it personally
as the cost of any future livestock harmed as a result of it would exceed the cost of rock

there are chemical filter media such as cuprizorb by Seachem that can be used to clear copper from systems, but the cost of using that again detracts from any saving you might make trying to save the rock

for future pvc tubes in the QT would give fish hiding places ,cover etc and they can be cleaned and stored until next time you use the QT
that way you dont run the cross contamination risk

cheers for the help people, i think i shall be binning it to be honest.it is annoying though, as the only reason it ended up in there was because the white spot came back and i didnt have another tank to treat fish in seperately,as the other tank was housing corals etc!!!in the panic i left it in there and treated fish asap!!!ggrrrr that"ll teach me!!thanks again for help, im off to chuck some rock......
