No, it's not open. We're actually using the aquarium "stand" to cover up the fact that we need to cut into the floor to give head height for the stairs going down.

I just placed my order for additional lighting. After much deliberation I've decided to go with four base Hydras to supplement my existing five Sol Blues. I was considering the Hydra 52s, but I think that would be overkill. I will be setting the lights up in a 3x3 grid with the Hydras at the corner. I will be using the new Director to control the lights and have bought 3 wireless units to connect to the Sol Blues.

I am making a very interesting "fixture" out of stainless steel that will hold all these things. Some pictures on this work in progress will be forthcoming.

That sounds like a cool fixture. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Will this fixture be suspended like your last one?

No, unfortunately there isn't the headroom to do so. I'm mounting rails to a beam above the tank, mounting a plate to sliders on the rails then mounting/hanging the fixture from that plate. The rails/slider allows me to move the lights to one side or another to access the tank.

If you're interested in seeing what I'm doing and taking a look at the house some time, let me know.

    Updates:

    - My old Solaris sitting over my semi-reef finally gave up the ghost. Good thing I had just received my new Hydras! (and Director). Wow, I have to say that the whole wireless thing is just freaking awesome. Amazing. Bravo AI.

    - I had to order a new Diablo pump. One of the first ones worked so well on our outdoor waterfall that I put it on it for good. It used to have a 5 amp pond pump throttled back. Now it's 87 watts. Got to like that.

    - My light fixture is nearing completion. I've got all the metal I need and a lot of finishing and drilling done.

    Sorry, no new pics yet
