I've almost got the filter room complete. Tighe took a panorama of the nearly complete set up. The only things left to do down there are to set up the Kalk reactor, set up the water change system and bring in the Apex control module (meaning I need to run data there).

    Things that are different:

    - Protein skimmer moved to high water area of sump. Much better there.
    - Plumbed pump into the two storage tank and ran pipe so I can fill various tanks.
    - Hard plumbed in the fuge.
    - Sand in the fuge
    - New lights over fuge
    - Temp controller and heaters in place

This looks amazing. How about a quick video to show us how its all working. I am particularly interested in that first tank where the water enters the system from upstairs.

Not a ton of progress over the weekend, but not bad...

First thing we did was put sand in. I decided that I want to go with a shallow sand bed for the esthetics of it. The good news was that on Saturday the wives decided to get together for girls' day out so Tighe and I had the whole day for fish stuff.

We took a drive down to Neptune Aquatics in Milpitas (the best store I've been able to find in the Bay area) and bought:

    - 250 lb of Phillipine pinkish sand
    - Two magnetic lettuce clips (I'll show you what I'll be doing with those in a later post)
    - Two 180 gph Hydor pumps to keep water flowing under the PVC plate
    - 50 hermits
    - 6 turbos
    - 20 Ceriths

We also stopped by Home Depot and bought some lexan (to go along with the lettuce clips - wait for that one) and a 5 gallon jug of water.

With the jug of water and some miscellaneous stuff I had laying around we made the reef tank equivalent of a beer bong:

We used this to get the sand to the bottom of the tank that currently has fish in it (the SPS side).

Below is a pick of the other tank with sand in it. We just dumped it in that one because there wasn't anything to hurt by doing so.

We also did more plumbing in the fish room, including setting up the ATO. Below is an image of the the tank side of the fish room with labels showing what's what:

Did you reuse the sand bong for something cold afterwards?
